How our software handles information, and what we never do with it.
Last updated 19 August 2026
Your organisation holds its own records. Our software runs against your clinic's or hospital's own system, and the information in it belongs to you. We build and support the software; you decide what is collected, who may see it, and how long it is kept. Each customer runs a separate installation, and nothing is shared between them.
Who this covers
This policy applies to Proteus Medical Technologies (Pty) Ltd, Johannesburg — to this website, and to every application we supply. Because our applications serve very different people, each one has a short annex setting out what that particular application records and what device permissions it asks for. Everything on this page is true of all of them.
- Metria Bio — For patients, issued by a clinic. Read the annex · Delete your data
- Stat Trac Mobile — For field reps, issued by their employer. Read the annex
What we always do
- Send your information to your own server, over an encrypted connection. Where an app needs a service of ours to find your organisation in the first place, its annex says so and says exactly what that service sees.
- Encrypt it on the device as well, so a lost or stolen handset does not expose it.
- Record who opened what, and when, in an audit log your organisation can inspect.
- Collect the least we can to make the software work.
What we never do
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers.
- No analytics, and no usage tracking of any kind.
- No crash reporting.
- Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with any third party.
- Nothing is used to train any artificial-intelligence system.
Who is responsible for your information
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, the organisation that issued the software to you — your clinic, hospital, or employer — is the responsible party. They decide what is collected and how long it is kept. Proteus acts as an operator: we process information only on their instruction, and only to build, run, and support the software.
This matters for a practical reason. To ask what is held about you, to correct it, or to ask for it to be deleted, contact the organisation that issued the software — they are the people who can act on it. We cannot reach into a customer's system and change their records on request, and you would not want a supplier who could.
How long information is kept
Medical and maintenance records are kept by the organisation that holds them for as long as the law requires, which is generally longer than people expect and is not something the software decides. Uninstalling an app removes the copy held on that device; it does not remove the records held by the organisation.
Support access
From time to time our engineers need access to a customer's system to diagnose a fault or complete an upgrade. That happens only at the customer's request, under their supervision, and only for as long as the work takes. We do not hold standing copies of customer records.
